The People Agree With Trump
While the left wing mainstream media continues to try to demonize President Trump and his supporters on a daily basis there is growing evidence that the policies he promised to pursue, and is now pursuing, are very much in line with what the majority of people want.
Take the subject of illegal immigration as a good example.
A recent survey from Harvard–Harris Poll published in ‘The Hill’ found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with.
In other words, no more sanctuary city nonsense.
There was also majority support (52 percent) for President Trump’s two executive orders allowing for the construction of a southern border wall, increasing the number of immigration officers by 10,000 and finding a way to revoke federal funds for sanctuary cities.
The whole idea of allowing sanctuary cities to exist is, and always has been, both ridiculous and unacceptable. It was only made possible because former Presidents ignored, or in Obama’s case ‘encouraged’, this threat to our national security and blatant defiance of the law. Hopefully this appeasement of those who give shelter to illegals is now coming to an end.
If/when action to defund sanctuary cities happens, estimates say that the nation’s top 10 sanctuary cities could lose $2.3 billion in federal funds for refusing to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Faced with this financial penalty some sanctuary cities, notably Miami, have already voted to drop that status and will in future comply with the law.
There are still a few holdouts, such as Democrat controlled Chicago and New York, but how long they can afford to do so is not known.
As The Hill notes, “Overall, this is a very positive poll for Trump.”
The only issue that so far that does not command majority support (although it is close at 47 percent) is the construction of a southern border wall.
Everything else Trump has proposed, including his temporary travel ban on immigration from 7 nations, has majority support. Support for the travel ban went as high as 60% when the question described the 7 countries that are the targets of the ban as “Muslim majority countries.”
Finally, on the question of Syrian refugees, a majority of respondents (51%) thought the number of immigrants the U.S. takes in from Syria, which President Obama set at 100,000 this fiscal year, should be lower. Only 15% thought it should be higher.
The reason President Trump is now in office is simply because he voiced the fears and aspirations of the majority of Americans. Now that he is following through on his election promises the people remain with him – and although it may come as some real news to the MSM, it’s the people who count.
