Cruz Endorses Trump
He was booed off the RNC Convention stage in Cleveland in July, after taking one of the worst political gambles in history.
But now, after a couple of months of reflection, Ted Cruz has finally got his act together and said he will be voting for Donald Trump in November.
Understandably perhaps, it wasn’t the most enthusiastic endorsement Trump has received and it would have meant so much more – for Cruz especially – had he done so at the convention, but it’s never too late to do the right thing and Cruz has at last done the right thing.
Cruz made his announcement in a 741-word Facebook post today (Friday Sep 23). He wrote that he made the decision because he wants to “keep his word” to vote for the Republican nominee and because he finds Hillary Clinton “wholly unacceptable.” Every right-thinking American can certainly agree with that last sentiment.
Cruz’s statement said, “After many months of careful consideration of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.”
He ended his post by encouraging others to do likewise, saying, “If you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.”
In reply Donald Trump said, “I am greatly honored by the endorsement of Senator Cruz. We have fought the battle and he was a tough and brilliant opponent. I look forward to working with him for many years to come in order to make America great again.”
With this endorsement Cruz has removed himself from the “dishonorables’ list” where he used to accompany Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Carly Fiorina and a few more sore losers.
That will do him no harm for the future. Had he remained a sore loser it would undoubtedly have impacted on his chances of holding on to his senate seat let alone making a bid for the presidency in 2024 (that’s after two Trump terms).
Cruz has no doubt calculated that, with Crooked Hillary’s failing health the odds of a Trump win in November have shortened considerably. He also knows that without the support of Trump’s people in the future he would have little chance of electoral success.
It is a super hard blow for what is left of the #NeverTrumps who are looking more and more pathetic as each day passes. You can be sure many of them are angered by the move but who cares about them.
What we care about is a Trump win in November and with Cruz and his supporters on board the Trump Train beating Crooked Hillary just got a little bit easier.
