Lindsey Graham’s On The TrumpTrain
For months, while he was one of the presidential candidates, he attacked Trump as best he could.
When he eventually dropped out of the race due to lack of interest – not his, the voters’ – he continued his diatribe against Trump and endorsed one establishment man after another to try to stop Trump in his tracks.
None of that worked either, as Jeb! and Marco and Ted were all defeated and left the race too.
Even then he refuse to honor the RNC Pledge and, along with low energy Jeb!, said he wouldn’t attend the Republican Convention in July.
Now all that has changed.
Lindsey Graham is making the rounds and urging GOP donors to get on board the #TrumpTrain.
Graham urged GOP donors at a private fundraiser recently in Florida to unite behind Trump’s campaign and stressed the importance of keeping likely Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton from the White House.
The fundraiser was hosted by former U.S. Ambassador to Portugal Al Hoffman, a former Republican National Committee finance chairman who also co-chaired Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential bid.
“He did say that we need to get behind him,” Teresa Dailey, a prominent Florida Republican fundraiser who attended the private event, told CNN.
Graham spokesman Kevin Bishop confirmed that Graham attended a fundraiser in Florida.
Bishop would not confirm Graham’s remarks at the private event but said the senator has been clear that he doesn’t support a third-party run that some conservatives are working to organize.
Through his staff, Graham has confirmed that his criticism of Trump has been “wide and deep” over the course of the primary, but the frozen landscape of their relationship has been thawing of late. They had a phone call earlier this month to discuss foreign policy which he described as “cordial and pleasant.” Foreign policy is Graham’s major concern and was a cornerstone of his own primary bid.
The overall tone coming from Graham these days seems to be less a case of falling in love with Trump, and more one of accepting that the real enemy is Hillary Clinton.
Graham also has the good sense not to support the idiotic calls for a third party option which is destined to end in failure cause unnecessary stress within the Republican Party.
British wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill, whose mother was an American, once said jokingly that “Americans will always do the right thing, only after they have tried everything else.”
Welcome on board the Trump Train Lindsey.
Next stop the White House.
