Des Moines Register Has Trump #1
With just a few hours remaining until the Iowa caucuses, and after months of anti-Trump propaganda in Iowa, much of it from Jeb Bush and his PAC, Trump is still number one in the Iowa polls.
His main rival Ted Cruz has slid to 23 percent.
Marco Rubio is in third place at 15 percent, followed by Ben Carson at 10 percent.
Rand Paul is in 5th position with 5 percent followed by Chris Christie with 3 percent.
The remainder, Bush, Fiorina, Huckabee, Kasich and Santorum are all on 2 percent.
“Donald Trump could win Iowa,” said Stuart Stevens, a Maryland-based GOP strategist who has worked on five presidential campaigns but is neutral this election cycle. “But he has little room for error. He is almost no one’s second choice.”
This is a significant result for Donald Trump in the state where poll results have been tighter than most. Historically, the final Des Moines Register poll has been a, not perfect, but quite accurate, predictor of the final Iowa result.
The poll, conducted by legendary Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer, has long been influential and accurate: Selzer’s surveys predicted victories by Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee in 2008, and foresaw Rick Santorum’s late surge in 2012.
But there is no time and no room to be complacent about this poll result. Sure it is good news for Donald Trump, but the only Iowa poll that really counts is the one tomorrow. So please make the effort to go out and caucus and vote for Donald Trump.
